Deadlock Movement Guide: Stamina, Dash-Jump, Slide and More

Every movement mechanic in Deadlock explained, including stamina, dashes, the dash-jump, slides, wall jumps, ziplines and teleporters, with the exact costs and how to use each one.

Movement in Deadlock is more than getting from A to B. It’s how you dodge abilities, escape ganks, chase kills and reach fights first. Two players with the same hero and items can feel completely different because of how they move.

Stamina: the resource behind everything

Most movement tricks cost stamina, shown as small bars under your crosshair.

HeroStamina bars

Graves, Holliday, McGinnis, Silver, Vindicta2
Celeste, Grey Talon, Ivy, Vyper4

Without items, one bar takes about 5 seconds to recharge. That’s slow, so every dash should have a purpose.

What costs stamina:

ActionCost
Dash (ground or air)1 bar
Dash jump2 bars in total
Double jump (air jump)1 bar
Down dash (double-tap crouch in the air)Stamina

Items that add stamina

Kinetic Dash1,600+1+12%
Stamina Mastery3,200+2+18%

Stamina Mastery also lets you air dash and air jump twice per jump instead of once.

Sprint

You don’t press a key to sprint. After 5 seconds out of combat, your hero speeds up on their own. Taking or dealing damage, or zooming in, drops you back to normal speed. That’s why rotations between lanes feel faster than chasing an enemy.

Dash

Left Shift dashes in the direction you’re moving. It’s a quick burst of distance that works on the ground and in the air (one air dash per jump, two with Stamina Mastery).

Use it to: dodge a skillshot, close the gap for a melee, or cover distance at the start of an escape.

Dash jump

The most important movement skill in the game:

  1. Dash.
  2. Press jump during the dash. The stamina bars under your crosshair turn blue while the timing window is open.

A dash jump costs 2 stamina and covers a lot more ground than a dash plus a jump done separately. It’s the fastest way to escape, cross a street or reach high ground.

Practice it: go to the sandbox and dash jump across an open street until you can hit the blue window every time.

Slide

Press Left Ctrl while moving fast (at least around 8.9 m/s) or while going down a slope. Sliding keeps your speed up and makes you a lower, harder target.

  • Slide out of a dash to keep your momentum.
  • Slide down slopes and stairs to pick up speed for free.
  • Hold crouch while mantling for a mantle glide.

Double jump and wall jump

  • Double jump: press jump in the air. Costs 1 stamina.
  • Wall jump: press jump next to a wall. The first one is free. Each one after that costs 0.5 stamina, with the cost recovering over about 1.25 seconds.

Wall jumps let you climb buildings and change direction mid-air without spending a dash.

Mantling

Jump at a ledge and your hero pulls themselves up. Watch out: a melee hit while you’re mantling slows you by 80% (fading to 20% over 2 seconds). Mantling right in front of an enemy is risky.

Down dash

Double-tap crouch in mid-air to drop quickly. Use it to land behind cover, or to get off a zipline or roof fast.

Map traversal

  • Ziplines run the length of every lane, from base to base. Everyone starts the match riding one. How far you can ride depends on how far your troopers have pushed. Ride ziplines to get back to lane after shopping or respawning.
  • Jump pads are small vents that launch you through the air.
  • Ropes let you climb up to rooftops and upper floors.
  • Teleporters come in two linked pairs. They have a wind-up, so check it’s safe before using one.
  • No fall damage. Jumping off a tall building is always a safe way down.

Movement in fights

  1. Never stand still while shooting. Strafe left and right; even small movements throw off enemy aim.
  2. Save a dash for escaping. If you spend every stamina bar chasing someone, you have nothing left when their team turns up.
  3. Use height. Enemies looking up are easier to read, and high ground is harder to reach.
  4. Break line of sight. Dash around corners to stop enemy damage and hide from abilities that need a target.

Next steps

Once these basics feel automatic, move on to advanced movement tech, including corner boosts, melee jumps and dash-jump cancels.

Frequently asked questions

How do you dash jump in Deadlock?

Dash, then press jump while the dash is still happening. The stamina bars under your crosshair turn blue during the timing window. A dash jump costs 2 stamina in total and covers far more distance than a normal dash.

How much stamina do heroes have in Deadlock?

Most heroes have 3 stamina bars. Graves, Holliday, McGinnis, Silver and Vindicta have 2, and Celeste, Grey Talon, Ivy and Vyper have 4. A bar takes about 5 seconds to recharge without items.

Is there fall damage in Deadlock?

No. You can drop from any height without taking damage, so jumping off rooftops is a valid escape.

How do I slide in Deadlock?

Press crouch (Left Ctrl) while moving fast, or while moving down a slope. You need to be going at least around 8.9 m/s, so slide out of a sprint or a dash.
