How to play
Infernus is a damage-over-time brawler. Everything he does sets enemies on fire: bullets build Afterburn, Napalm coats and slows them, and Flame Dash leaves burning trails. Then Concussive Combustion turns him into a bomb that stuns the whole enemy team.
Laning phase (0–10 min)
- Shoot the enemy hero whenever it’s safe. Each bullet builds Afterburn, and the burn keeps working after you stop shooting.
- Napalm is your trading tool. Spray it, then shoot. The slow makes it hard for your opponent to back off, and napalmed targets take extra damage once you have T3.
- Keep Flame Dash for escaping early on. Its cooldown is long until T1.
Mid game (10–25 min)
- Chase down the wounded. Flame Dash through a fleeing enemy, then Napalm to slow them; the burn often finishes them off.
- Use Napalm on troopers and camps to farm quickly; the lifesteal from T2 keeps you healthy.
- Get anti-heal early if the enemy has healers. Napalm T3 plus Toxic Bullets is a big healing cut.
Late game and team fights (25+ min)
- Concussive Combustion is a flank tool. Activate it, then Flame Dash into the middle of the enemy team so you blow up as you arrive.
- Watch for stuns and silences. If the enemy can stop you mid-cast, bait those out first or buy Unstoppable.
- Stay in the fight after the bomb. Your burns are still ticking, and T2 gives the explosion 100% lifesteal.
Combos
- Dash bomb: Concussive Combustion → Flame Dash into the enemy team → explode on arrival → Napalm the stunned targets.
- Lane trade: Napalm → shoot until Afterburn stacks → back off and let the burn finish the job.
- Chase: Flame Dash past a fleeing target → turn around → Napalm to slow them in your fire trail.
Matchups
- Good against: tanks and healers, who take full value from long burns and anti-heal.
- Hard against: heroes with long-range burst who can kill him before burns add up, and teams with lots of stuns or silences that cancel his ultimate.
- Spirit resist hurts him. Most of his damage is spirit damage, so add some weapon items if the enemy stacks spirit resist.
Pro tips
- Afterburn T2 makes burning enemies deal 35% less spirit damage. It’s a strong defensive upgrade against spirit heroes.
- Flame Dash T3 gives two charges. One to engage, one to escape.
- Burns secure kills from range. If a target escapes on very low health, the burn may still finish them.
Lore
Infernus is an Ixian immigrant who grew up in New York with a wild, fire-fuelled youth. He's since turned to bartending and self-control, and only lets his flames loose when someone needs protecting.
Frequently asked questions
Is Infernus good for beginners?
Infernus is a medium-difficulty hero. His damage is forgiving because burns keep ticking even when your aim isn't perfect, but timing Concussive Combustion and knowing when to dive takes practice.
How does Afterburn work?
Every bullet you land adds to a burn on the target that deals spirit damage over time. Your abilities refresh its duration, so mixing gunfire with Napalm and Flame Dash keeps enemies burning.
How do you counter Infernus?
Save a stun or silence for when he activates Concussive Combustion, since there's a 3.25-second delay before the explosion. Spread out so his bomb can't hit your whole team, and buy spirit resist.
