Not all souls are equal. Souls from the jungle, crates and Sinner’s Sacrifice are haunted: they’re yours, but not safely yours until they’ve been secured.
What counts as haunted
| Haunted | Not haunted (secured straight away) |
|---|---|
| Jungle camps (haunts) | Troopers |
| Crates and tough crates | Hero kills |
| Sinner’s Sacrifice | Objectives (Guardians, Walkers, Mid Boss, Rift, Urn) |
How haunted souls work
- They count towards your boon level immediately, so you level up right away.
- You can spend them. When you buy something, your secured souls are spent first, then your haunted souls.
- They slowly secure themselves over time.
- If you die, part of your unsecured haunted bank is dropped.
How fast they secure
Every second, two things happen at once:
- 0.5% of your current haunted bank becomes secured.
- A flat amount also secures, starting at 1.6 per second and growing about 8% per minute.
Example: at 10 minutes, a 1,000-soul haunted bank secures at about 7.9 souls per second. A big jungle haul takes a while to become safe.
What happens when you die
- You drop haunted souls above a threshold of 50 + 5 × the match minute. At 20:00, that’s 150 souls kept; the rest drops.
- The dropped souls appear as a soul bag at your death spot.
- Anyone can claim it with a heavy melee, including the enemy who killed you.
- Unclaimed bags disappear after 3 minutes.
Playing around haunted souls
- Spend after a big farm. Visiting a shop after a jungle run turns haunted souls into items you can’t drop.
- Play safe with a big unsecured bank. If you just cleared a Sacrifice or the Bell Tower, don’t take a risky fight straight away.
- Grab your own soul bag. If a teammate dies nearby, heavy melee their bag before the enemy does.
- Steal enemy bags. After winning a fight, check for soul bags. They can be worth hundreds of souls.
- Hunt farmers. An enemy carry who’s been in the jungle for a while is carrying a lot of droppable souls.
