Item build
A starting build that works in most games. Swap pieces based on the enemy team; the notes explain what each stage is for.
Checked against 9,457 Viscous matches from October 6–7, 2026 (all ranks). It keeps the items most Viscous players buy and fills the other slots with the items that won most often. See the item tier list for how we measure that.
WeaponVitalitySpirit
| Stage | Items |
|---|---|
| Laning (800-soul items)Mystic Expansion is on most Viscous players, for bigger Splatters and Puddle Punches. Extra Charge has the best results of his cheap items. | |
| Mid game core (1,600–3,200)Viscous's spirit core: Spirit Snatch, Tankbuster, Greater Expansion and Superior Cooldown. Melee Charge scores well with Puddle Punch. Rescue Beam, the usual active, scores poorly, so it isn't in this build. | |
| Late game (6,400)Witchmail has the best late-game results and keeps you tanky. Spirit Burn and Crushing Fists add damage. | |
| SituationalBallistic Enchantment and Point Blank both score well for a more aggressive Viscous. Recharging Rush for a gun-leaning build. |

How to play
Viscous is a disruptive support. The Cube encases an ally (or himself) in invulnerable goo, Splatter leaves slowing puddles, Puddle Punch summons a fist from 40 metres away, and Goo Ball turns him into a bouncing, stunning ball of slime.
Laning phase (0–10 min)
- Splatter for trades and slows. Bounce it into the enemy hero.
- Puddle Punch from range. It knocks up and slows; beware, enemies can parry it.
- Your alt-fire deals 42 damage for 5 ammo, which is good for poking.
Mid game (10–25 min)
- Save allies with The Cube. Make a focused teammate invulnerable while your team responds.
- Cube yourself to escape burst or reset a fight.
Late game and team fights (25+ min)
- Goo Ball to engage. Roll through the enemy team, stunning everyone you hit.
- Goo Ball forces Urn carriers to drop the urn, which is great for stopping urn runs.
- Cube T3 removes debuffs, which saves allies from crowd control.
Combos
- Engage: Goo Ball into the enemy team → Splatter on the stunned group → Puddle Punch.
- Save: The Cube on the focused ally → Splatter to slow the divers.
- Pick: Puddle Punch (knock-up) → Splatter → shoot.
Matchups
- Good against: burst teams (The Cube wastes their damage) and urn carriers.
- Hard against: teams that wait out the Cube and anyone who parries Puddle Punch.
Pro tips
- Allies slide faster on your puddles, which helps them rotate and escape.
- Puddle Punch T3 deals heavy melee damage, so it scales with melee items.
Lore
Viscous is a psychic sea anemone from the depths of the Bermuda Triangle. He's taken on a body made of goo to summon the Patrons and protect his home from a dark predator known as the Adversary.
Frequently asked questions
Can Viscous cube himself?
Yes. The Cube can target Viscous or an ally. It makes the target invulnerable and heals them for 3 seconds (4 with T2), and with T3 it removes non-ultimate debuffs. The target can jump or mantle out early.
Does the Soul Urn carrier drop the urn to Goo Ball?
Yes. Goo Ball hits are one of the specific effects that force an Urn carrier to drop the urn.
How do you counter Viscous?
Parry Puddle Punch when you see it coming, and wait out The Cube rather than wasting damage on it. Spread out so Goo Ball can't stun your whole team.
